French language immersion

(since 1997)

Vues d’Afrique is the largest festival recent film and video from African and the Caribbean in North America today. The extraordinary variety and depth of subjects by these feature and documentary films and videos, the performances, exhibits and symposia from all over African and the Caribbean offer a rich opportunity to experience contemporary African and Creole cultures and the issues that are shaping them today.

The purpose of the Accès Cinéma Africain French immersion is to use current films and video from African, Asian, and the Caribbean as documents for exploration and study within the context of the film festival and as a language program intensive. We watch films in French (spoken or sub-titled) discuss them in daily French classes, and go further in depth in workshops with visiting filmmakers. Over the course of the program, we explore interrelationships of the various cultures, themes and stories within a multi-disciplinary community from Montréal and around the globe. This unique combination of elements has proven to be stimulating to the individual interests of our participants as well as to French language improvement.
